one more ridiculously cute public service announcement:
One of my best friends Imi (on the left!) runs Electric Alice - a blog and shop dedicated to making the world a happier and cuter place. She was contacted by one of her friends Sebastian - founder and designer of 6% Dokidoki about his MIGHTY HARAJUKU project:
(taken directly from the Electric Alice blog)
Have you heard about 6% Doki Doki’s MIGHTY HARAJUKU PROJECT? After the recent disasters around Sendai, scary aftershocks in Tokyo and worrying radiation problems, Mr Sebastian Masuda (6% Doki Doki CEO) noticed that Harajuku suddenly became much less genki. Genki is an important word in japan. Literally it means energetic, but it is used daily in many contexts, so it can also mean anything from happy and healthy, to bubbly and bright! Pretty useful words to describe Harajuku, right?
Well, usually… this was Harajuku last week:
It is more or less deserted, with as much as 70% of the stores closed.
Sebastian wants to bring back the energy to Harajuku, so that it can continue to be a beacon of exuberance in a dark world. He says:
“While looking from the rest of the world, Harajuku is a place that is admired. It is a rare area that Japan can be proud of for constantly transmitting interesting information from a very edgy angle. If Harajuku loses its power, I have a strong feeling that Tokyo, Japan will lose a lot of its appeal. I want to let people know that we don’t want Harajuku, Tokyo or Japan to lose anything from the earthquake; and I think that by letting people know our thoughts, it would definitely encourage them as well.”
Sorry to make this so long - just Harajuku is one of my favourite places in the whole world. It really is a gemstone and i would hate to see it lose it’s shine. Read more about this and find out how you can help JUST BY LOOKING REALLY CUTE! ♥
Kisses, cuties!
